The blue band refers to the nation's Turkish heritage, the red stands for progress,  liberty and the green represents Islamic civilization,white half moon, Islamics and eight- pointed star Azerbaijan.  The official colors and size were adopted on February 5, On November 17, 2009, a presidential decree declared  November 9 as the national Flag Day.
